Original General Lee Goes To Auction

Another original General Lee, built from a 1969 Dodge Charger and used on The Dukes of Hazzard series, is going to auction. The vehicle has been modified slightly by its owner Jalen Rose. Recognize the name? That’s because Rose is the NCAA and NBA veteran who started with Michigan State, followed by a 13-year professional career with the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers. He’s also an ESPN commentator.

With a bid of $45,000 to get the ball rolling (sports analogy, like?) you’ll get the original Lee (one of 17 used in the hit TV series as a “Hero car”) sans-Confederate flag, No. 05 (Rose’s number, in place of the 01) and his nickname “Longboy” (insert joke here) above both doors. There’s also an updated stereo/audio system. Aside from that, it’s all original Lee.

“The ‘General Lee’ is one of the most well known cars in American television history,” said Jalen in a press release. “I am proud to own such an esteemed car, but it means so much more to benefit the lives of Detroit youth with the launch of the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy this coming September. Funding for schools is essential to their overall success, and I saw the auction of the General Lee as a key way to help raise money and awareness for the school.”

The vehicle is also autographed by Jalen Rose, along with “Bo Duke” aka actor John Schneider.

Suffolk County police discovered the ditched 1969 Dodge Charger after it had been taken for a joy ride the previous evening in Ronkonkoma, Long Island. Suspects have yet to be rounded up. The replica was taken from Continental Car Care in Ronkonkoma – where the thief used a ladder to gain access to the auto body shop. This particular replica was actually used in the Dukes of Hazzard TV series and auctioned off for $450,000 prior to this crime.
